Dear Stakeholders
It is my pleasure to present you the MIMOS Retrospective 2017.
July 2017 marked the beginning of my journey as the new captain of MIMOS. I would like to start by thanking my predecessor Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah for his legacy of stalwart stewardship for the past 11 years. I humbly accept this responsibility and I look forward to this inspiring new role.
As an incoming leader of the national applied research and development agency, my top priority is to focus on the corporate mission and performance. I will resume the excellent job of my predecessors Tengku Datuk Dr Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen and Datuk Abdul Wahab. I believe we are well on track to achieving our mission of building the local industry with homegrown technologies. I have pledged to leverage the strength of our core areas, enhance our software capabilities and integrate our assets to maximise the value of our innovation.
I have come to MIMOS with this realisation: We are living at the end of decades-old Third Industrial Revolution, and the next wave of the evolution has already arrived at our shores. Hence, our immediate focus should be on continual, sustainable innovation, development of competent talent and closer engagement with our stakeholders, which I'm sure MIMOS has been doing since long ago, and we should continue to do even more.
Last year, we saw the establishment of more partnerships between MIMOS and various government agencies, academia, and industry players on an agenda of mutual growth and benefits. We would like to thank our partners and we look forward to strong and continuing collaborations that can take us all to greater heights.
We are also pleased to have been crowned with Asia's Best Employer Brand Awards yet again, which further recognised MIMOS’ corporate leadership and human resources best practices. To cap the year, our research scientist Ir Dr Hafizal Mohamad bagged the ASEAN Outstanding Scientist and Technologist Award (AOSTA) 2017. We could not have achieved these accolades without all MIMOSians’ concerted commitment and hard work.
I must thank the Finance Ministry for the confidence placed in me; and the then Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (now known as Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change) for the endless support. With all the makings of a world-class research and development centre, plus the necessary support structure, I have great confidence that MIMOS will continue to rise to the challenge of driving Malaysia to achieve its aim of becoming an innovation nation.
