MIMOS Berhad recently hosted a visit from a delegation of 30 individuals participating in the Selangor/Negeri Sembilan Semiconductor study tour, organised by the Regional Economic Development Authority (REFSA), Invest Selangor, and the Selangor Industrial Development Corporation (SIDEC).

The delegation, led by Tan E Hun, Executive Director of REFSA, and Yong Kai Ping, CEO of SIDEC, included representatives from various organisations, such as Bank Negara Malaysia, Khazanah Nasional Berhad, CREST, and the Institute for Strategic and International Studies (ISIS).

The study tour aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the semiconductor industry in Malaysia, particularly in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

Key objectives included analysing the current geopolitical landscape and its impact on the semiconductor industry, exploring the chip-making process and Malaysia’s role within the global semiconductor ecosystem, assessing Malaysia’s competitive positioning within ASEAN and identifying areas for improvement, discussing national policies and incentives to bolster the semiconductor industry’s capacity and competitiveness, and encouraging dialogue with the private sector to identify opportunities for Malaysia to move up the value chain and create high-quality jobs for Malaysians.

The visit to MIMOS provided the delegation with valuable insights into the latest advancements in semiconductor technology and Malaysia’s role in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Additionally, the delegation was honoured to have YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), join part of the tour. His presence further emphasised the importance of the semiconductor industry to Malaysia’s economic growth and development.
