Penang Officially Launched ‘Penang Silicon Design @5km+’ Initiative, Elevating Malaysia’s Position in the Global IC Design and AI Landscape

Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow launched the ‘Penang Silicon Design @5km+’ initiative, along with GBS TechSpace as the Silicon Research & Incubation Space. This initiative aims to boost Malaysia’s semiconductor industry, focusing on IC design, talent development, and R&D.

InvestPenang signed MoUs with various technology collaborators, including Cadence, Siemens, Synopsys, SilTerra, and MIMOS, to enable end-to-end design processes and foster collaboration. The Penang State Government allocated RM60 million to support the initiative, offering incentives to eligible companies.

The event also announced the establishment of five global giants, Alchip, AMD Global Services, Celestica, Microsoft, and Monolithic Power Systems, at the Penang IC Design & Digital Park.
