The inclusion of MIMOS as an agency under Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) in October 2018 and the launch of National Policy on Industry 4.0 (Industry4WRD) soon afterwards are strategic moves by the Government that have paved the way for greater awareness and adoption of digital and disruptive technologies.
The moves also saw an increase in MIMOS’ engagements with other government agencies, as well as with industry and academia – which led to more initiatives, collaborations and exchanges of knowledge.
The application of Industry 4.0 technologies can lead to improved product and service quality, reduced costs, more efficient workflow and overall business growth, thus enhancing national competitiveness.
Under MITI, MIMOS is in better alignment with industry. 2019 and beyond will see MIMOS go full throttle to push more small and medium-sized entreprises (SMEs) and startups to adopt local technology.
This year, MIMOS has been working behind the scenes with SMEs to create ‘living labs’ to spur a grassroots movement towards technology adoption. The ‘living labs’ are SMEs that would identify and address specific business pain points by implementing different Industry 4.0 enabling technologies.
The labs demonstrate real-world application of MIMOS’ smart manufacturing solutions in positively impacting aspects such as productivity and efficiency, service quality and cost management for faster business growth.
