Driving high-impact initiatives | MIMOS has been granted the Strategic Research Fund (SRF), a special financing scheme under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) that fund research and development (R&D) in areas that have a high impact on the country as outlined in the National Policy on Science, Technology and Innovation.
SRF, which was introduced by MOSTI last year, provides up to RM15 million to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and multinational companies for a matching period of 36 months for products with Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) of 3 to 9.
Under SRF, MIMOS has been entrusted to undertake three programmes, each concentrating on accelerating the development of products and technologies in renewable energy (RE) and future electricity grid; electrified and autonomous mobility; as well as blockchain.
Two of the programmes were in line with MIMOS’ focus on high-value electronics for critical future industries (HECFI) which cover RE and electric and autonomous vehicles (EAV).
Driving high-impact initiatives for future nation
For the first programme which is to expedite the development of products and technologies in RE and future electricity grids, the technology projects focus on solar generation technologies, energy demand side management, energy storage needs and other RE technologies.
The second programme, electrified and autonomous mobility for local product and technology development, would involve several projects including on-board systems for autonomous driving (sensors, compute, software), on-board systems for drivetrain and power (motors, batteries, fuel cell) and infrastructure (charging stations, battery swapping).
The third programme would accelerate blockchain development by focusing on people projects like developing halal traceability systems; industry projects like energy tokenisation and trading systems, blockchain system for custom Authorised Economic Operator, as well as Government projects like Blockchain-based procurement system.
