From 2004 to date, 1,386 patents have been applied for in Malaysia. 69% or 959 of them were filed to WIPO under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), and a total of 102 filings were made to foreign countries. Out of the total patent applications filed in Malaysia, 904 have been granted. And out of the 102 filings to foreign countries, 32 applications have been granted.
Cumulatively, 678 Intellectual Properties (IPs), which have been patented and copyrighted, are commercialised IPs. Other than patents, 70 Industrial Designs were applied in Malaysia, of which 65 have been granted.
Some of the applied Industrial Designs were also filed in foreign countries with a total of 135 applications, of which 97 of them have been granted.
In addition to patents and industrial designs, MIMOS has also filed 153 Trademarks in Malaysia and 47 in foreign countries.
Intellectual Properties (IP) in Malaysia
Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; and designs such as symbols, names and images used in commerce.
The many types of intellectual property include patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets.
