Celebrating MIMOS’ Women Tech Leaders & Researchers: Dr. Solehah Jasmee

Dr. Solehah Jasmee, a Senior Engineer at the Material Analysis (MA) Lab in MIMOS Berhad, has established herself as a leading expert in materials characterisation. She leads the X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Multi-Technique XPS analysis team, which includes expertise in UV Photoelectron Spectroscopy (UPS), Reflected Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (REELS), and Ion Scattering Spectroscopy (ISS), also known as Low-Energy Ion Scattering (LEIS), in the MA Lab.

Dr. Solehah provides technical support, oversees equipment operation, develops training programmes, and ensures adherence to quality standards. Her expertise is invaluable to both internal and external customers, including MIMOS, research and development departments in various industries and academic institutions. Her wide-ranging expertise makes her a valuable asset to the organisation.

Dr. Solehah’s work has had a profound impact on industry and society. Her expertise in materials characterisation helps improve product reliability by identifying and addressing potential issues, thus enhancing product quality and performance. She also contributes to the development of new materials and technologies, supporting innovation across various sectors. By offering valuable insights into material properties, she helps companies stay competitive in a rapidly evolving market.

Her expertise spans multiple areas, including hydrophobicity analysis, where her research on surface energy, wettability, and contact angles has contributed to developing flexible ceramic-based coatings for flexible circuits, now being applied at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia. She has also extensively characterised nanocomposites, particularly hybrid graphene and functionalised boron nitride, for thermal interface materials (TIM) for electronic applications. Dr. Solehah’s research has been widely recognised and published in leading journals such as Wiley, Taylor & Francis, IOP, and Springer, having also presented her findings at prestigious conferences, including Nagoya University, Japan. She has been recognised with awards such as the Best Paper Award at the IEEE Conference and a Silver Award for her self-fabricated contact angle measurement tools.

She also proficiency in characterisation techniques like Micro and Nano Indentation, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Raman Spectroscopy, and thermal conductivity analysis enables her to assess the mechanical, thermal, and structural properties of advanced materials for industrial applications. Dr. Solehah is also skilled in techniques such as Fourier Transform Infrared Radiation (FTIR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Cross-sectioning Processes and more, which she uses to analyse elemental, chemical, and thermal properties, driving improvements in product quality. She is committed to driving further innovation at MIMOS and contributing to the semiconductor sector, while advancing Malaysia’s technological landscape.

Looking forward, Dr. Solehah is dedicated to further developing her skills in advanced analytical methods, such as Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES), Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (TOF-SIMS), and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), to stay at the forefront of the field. She also aims to mentor junior analysts, explore teaching opportunities, and create comprehensive training programmes to equip researchers and technicians with essential skills. Dr. Solehah Jasmee is a highly motivated and accomplished researcher whose expertise and contributions make her a valuable asset to MIMOS Berhad and the broader scientific community.
