Celebrating MIMOS’ women tech leaders and researchers on Malaysia Day

As we celebrated Malaysia Day on 16 September, we also proudly joined the global observance of the UN’s International Day of Science, Technology, and Innovation for the South. This important day champions innovation in developing countries, promoting sustainable development and the role of technology in improving lives.

At MIMOS, we are especially proud to shine a spotlight on our extraordinary women researchers and technology experts, who have been instrumental in driving R&D efforts for nearly four decades. Their contributions have significantly advanced Malaysia’s technology industry, directly aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to a 2021 World Bank report, nearly 50% of researchers in Malaysia’s STEM fields are women—a strong indicator of the nation’s commitment to gender equality in science and technology. At MIMOS, women account for 44% of our workforce, highlighting our inclusive and empowering environment where women are encouraged to excel despite societal and cultural barriers.

This Malaysia Day, we honoured these trailblazing women who have shattered stereotypes, broken barriers, and inspired countless others to pursue careers in the Technology industry. Their ground-breaking work is not only shaping Malaysia’s innovation landscape, but also paving the way for the next generation of female technologists.

In addition, we proudly celebrate Malaysia’s rise on the global innovation stage, recently ranked 93rd globally in the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s Global Innovation Index (GII). MIMOS itself has been recognised as the top Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) contributor, with 164 approved patents, underlining our strong leadership in technological advancements.

MIMOS introduced its article series, commencing on 23 Sept to 4 November, where we featured the inspiring journeys of several of our female MIMOS employees, highlighting their academic and professional achievements. Their stories will continue to inspire and motivate others to reach for the stars in the technology field
