1. National Technology and Innovation Sandbox (NTIS)
MIMOS was appointed as one of the secretariats for NTIS, where the centre plays its role in improving Malaysia’s societal well-being through patentable technology platforms. Introduced by the Government in June 2020, NTIS is a facility that allows researchers, innovators, startups and high-tech entrepreneurs to test their products, services, business models and delivery mechanisms in a live environment.
2. Centre of Artificial Intelligence for Future Industry (CAIFI)
A joint effort by MIMOS and Microsoft, CAIFI was set up in December 2018 with the aim to establish an AI ecosystem for Malaysian industry to move into Industry 4.0. The centre was officially launched by MITI on 30 October 2019 in conjunction with one-year implementation of the National Policy on Industry 4.0.
The centre is equipped with Microsoft’s Internet of Things (IoT) and AI programmes, providing access to developmental tools for learning purposes. The centre assists industries in creating and sustaining higher value using AI; and how they can get started.
3. Intelligent Community Infrastructure System (iComm)
In January 2016, an intelligent community system for rural areas known as iComm was launched. The application comprises a network of high-definition closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras placed at strategic locations, river monitoring sensors for flood alertness and an Internet-based mobile communication system. iComm has been deployed in Pekan, Pahang; Tasik Kenyir, Terengganu; as well as Tuaran and Kiulu, Sabah.
4. KnowledgeGRID Malaysia
KnowledgeGRID Malaysia was launched by MIMOS on 20 August 2007, aimed at providing a national infrastructure that maximises high performance computing resources to accelerate research and industrial development for national wealth and value creation. Under the Ninth Malaysia Plan, MIMOS was mandated to spearhead the KnowledgeGRID Malaysia initiatives.
5. Makcik PC
In 2007, MIMOS launched a prototype computer called Makcik PC to help bridge digital divide in Malaysia. Under Makcik PC, MIMOS produced two variants in 2008 namely Jen-ii (Jendela Informasi Internet) and iDOLA.
Jen-ii is a tabled PC that aimed to bridge the digital gap between the haves and have-nots, urban and rural, young and old. It came with touchscreen, IPv6, audio-visual and user-friendly features. iDOLA is a fill-fledged mobile PC designed as an affordable and smart solution for innovative learning. Developed by MIMOS in collaboration with Intel, iDOLA features Windows applications, touchscreen, wireless connectivity, IPv6 and is powered by Intel microprocessor.
6. AgriBazaar
In 2004, MIMOS together with the Agriculture Department launched AgriBazaar, an online portal that served as trading hub for buyers and sellers of agricultural products. AgriBazaar is a cost-effective e-commerce Supply Chain Management application which focuses in bridging the digital divide among farmers, enhancing productivity and competitiveness in the agriculture sector.
7. Titian Digital
In 2003, MIMOS introduced Titian Digital, a nationwide programme to encourage ICT application to all segments of the rural community. The programme launched its first test site in Kampung Pamah Kulat, Pahang.
8. National ICT Security and Emergency Response Centre (NISER)
NISER was formed in 2001 as a department in MIMOS to address emerging ICT security issues in Malaysia. In 2005, NISER became a separate agency, highlighting MIMOS’ direction towards focusing on applied R&D.
On 30 March 2007, NISER was registered as a not-for-profit, Company Limited-by-Guarantee under supervision of MOSTI. On 20 August 2007, it was rebranded to CyberSecurity Malaysia.
9. Cikgu.net
MIMOS launched Malaysia’s first education portal, Cikgu.net, a dedicated portal for educators in March 2000. It rides on iGalaksi, a portal engine developed by MIMOS. Cikgu.net marked the organisation’s technology deployment to the nation, which was well received by Malaysians and international audience.
10. Virtual Environment for Secure Transactions (iVEST)
In 1999, MIMOS launched iVEST, a comprehensive end-to-end platform for securing Net-based communication and commerce. iVEST has successfully provided an Internet Security solution for MyKad PKI applications for Malaysians.
11. DigiCert
Incorporated on 21 February 1998, DigiCert is a joint-venture company between MIMOS, Pos Malaysia and GITN as the first Certification Authority to issue digital certificates in Malaysia. DigiCert provides certification management services such as screening people who apply for issuance and revocation of certificates, publication of certificates and delivery storage and archiving. DigiCert was divested in 2009.
12. Malaysia Network Information Centre (MYNIC)
Established in 1997, MYNIC was set up to administer the registration of Internet identities; addresses in cyberspace or “domain name” in Internet terms.
MYNIC was under MIMOS’ guardianship until it was corporatised in 2006, where it was formed as an agency under Ministry of Communications and Multimedia Malaysia, dedicated to help Malaysians reaching out to the world via the use of .MY domain names.
13. Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT)
MyCERT was established on 13 January 1997 as a unit under MIMOS to address digital security issues that might affect Malaysian Internet users. MyCERT consists of specialists such as intrusion analysts, malware analysts, application security analysts, and emergency response professionals.
14. National Information Technology Council of Malaysia (NITC) and Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC)
In 1994, MIMOS was appointed as the Secretariat to the NITC, through which it played a key role in the development of the framework for MSC.
MSC was established by the Government to accelerate the growth of the nation’s digital economy. Currently known as MSC Malaysia, it is a Special Economic Zone and high-technology business district in central-southern Selangor. The MSC Malaysia status provides eligible ICT-related businesses, both local and foreign, with a wide range of incentives, rights and privileges to promote continued growth. MSC Malaysia covers an area of approximately 15 km (9.3 mi) × 50 km (31 mi), stretching from the Petronas Twin Towers to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
15. Jaring (Joint Advanced Research Integrated Networking)
MIMOS launched nation’s first Internet Service Provider, Jaring in 1992 to replace RangKoM.
MIMOS became the first in Asia to install the T3/45 Mbps line, providing faster access to Jaring users. It also implemented the world’s first fully IP-based Malaysian network; a 2.5Gbps SuperJARING backbone. JARING Communications Sdn Bhd was later established as a spin-off company under MIMOS Berhad on 1 April 2005.
16. Computer Integrated Learning System (ComIL)
In 1989, the Ministry of Education and MIMOS launched ComIL, an education authoring tool. ComIL was designed to help teachers to develop learning materials in Bahasa Malaysia for the Ministry’s Computers-In-Education (CIE) programme in the national curriculum. Using ComIL, teachers and individuals who are familiar with the system can design the kind of courseware appropriate to the students’ level and interest.
17. Rangkaian Komputer Malaysia (RangKoM)
RangKom was formed in 1986 as a subsidiary under MIMOS. In 1991, RangKoM became an Internet Service Provider, offering services to limited members of the public.
