MIMOS QUANTUM DAY 2025 PAVED THE WAY FOR MALAYSIA’S FUTURE IN QUANTUM TECHNOLOGY

BUKIT JALIL, 25 February 2025 – MIMOS Berhad, Malaysia’s national applied research and development centre under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), has officially launched Malaysia’s first MIMOS Quantum Intelligence Centre at MIMOS Quantum Day 2025.

Officiated by YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), this initiative marks a pivotal milestone in Malaysia’s journey toward becoming a quantum-enabled nation. Recognising the transformative potential of quantum technology, the Minister emphasised that talent development will be the key driver in harnessing this technology for Malaysia’s future.

“Through initiatives like the MIMOS Quantum Intelligence Centre, we are nurturing the next generation of quantum scientists and engineers to lead Malaysia’s transformation. MOSTI will continue to strengthen research, education, and industry partnerships to ensure Malaysia’s competitiveness in this frontier technology,” said the Minister.

The centre will serve as a collaborative hub bridging policy with actionable strategies, driving deep-tech advancements, and enabling national adoption across government and industry. It will also play a critical role in R&D, fostering cutting-edge innovation while equipping Malaysia’s workforce with specialised quantum skills. By nurturing local expertise and attracting global partnerships, the centre is set to position Malaysia as a key player in the international quantum landscape.

Aligned with MOSTI’s National Science, Technology & Innovation Policy (DSTIN) 2021-2030, this initiative complements Malaysia’s broader efforts to lead in frontier technologies such as Quantum Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Recognising the role of high-tech talent in driving economic growth, Malaysia has committed to training 60,000 high-skilled engineers by 2030 under its National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS), further strengthening the quantum and semiconductor ecosystem.

A key milestone during MIMOS Quantum Day 2025 was the signing of a teaming agreement between MIMOS and SDT Inc. of Korea to establish Malaysia’s ‘Quantum Valley’, a dynamic innovation hub for quantum R&D, start-ups, and supply chain initiatives. This hub will provide world-class infrastructure, foster cross-border collaborations, and attract global investors to scale Malaysia’s quantum capabilities.

With over 200 participants, including researchers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers, MIMOS Quantum Day 2025 facilitated discussions on breakthroughs in quantum computing, communication, and security. Key highlights included panel discussions on quantum research and its impact on Malaysia’s industries, insights into Korea’s quantum advancements, and interactive workshops on real-world applications for finance, healthcare, and cybersecurity. Through these efforts, Malaysia is set to become a regional leader in quantum technology, driving economic growth and technological excellence.

Dr. Saat Shukri Embong, Acting President & Group Chief Executive Officer of MIMOS, emphasised that the event underscores Malaysia’s commitment to build a robust quantum ecosystem. “MIMOS Quantum Day 2025 is more than just a conference. It is a catalyst for shaping Malaysia’s digital future. Through collaboration, research, and innovation, we are paving the way for the next generation of quantum technologies.”

Mr. Jiwon Yune, Chief Executive Officer of SDT Inc., reaffirmed SDT Inc.’s dedication to advancing quantum intelligence in Malaysia. “Our partnership with MIMOS represents a shared vision of harnessing quantum technology to drive innovation and economic growth. We look forward to contributing our expertise to Malaysia’s quantum journey.”

MIMOS Quantum Day 2025 has set the stage for continued progress in quantum research and development. With the theme ‘Shaping the Future with Quantum Intelligence,’ the event brought together global experts, industry leaders, and policymakers to nurture Malaysia’s quantum talent pipeline and accelerate the country’s rise as Asia’s quantum innovation hub.

As Malaysia accelerates its transition into the Digital Economy, events like MIMOS Quantum Day will play a crucial role in shaping policies, fostering partnerships, and driving the adoption of quantum technologies across various industries.dynamic landscape of technological advancement and seeks to expand its impact on Malaysia and beyond.
