BUKIT JALIL, 14 June 2024 – The Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang, officiated the MIMOS-PHISON ‘Empowering Communities With AI: Unlocking Potential Through Technology’ Seminar at MIMOS Berhad, Bukit Jalil today.
Jointly organised by MIMOS Berhad, agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), and Phison Electronics Corporation, a global leader in NAND flash controllers and storage solutions, this seminar is a crucial platform for sharing Artificial Intelligence (AI) advancements with industry players, research institutes, and the government sector. Following their recent Memorandum of Cooperation, MIMOS and Phison aim to advance AI-driven model training in Malaysia, addressing the need for secure AI applications that boost competitiveness, especially for Malaysian Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
AI is revolutionising industries, enhancing efficiency, and solving complex problems. For Malaysia, embracing AI is essential for global competitiveness and achieving high-income, high-tech nation status.

YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang in his keynote address said, “Beyond the immediate benefit to SMEs, this partnership will also boost the nation’s capabilities and capacity in integrated circuits development and system design. This collaboration creates significant opportunities for knowledge transfer to Malaysians, empowering them to enhance their skills and expertise in AI. An exemplary initiative of this effort is today’s MIMOS-PHISON ‘Empowering Communities With AI: Unlocking Potential Through Technology’ Seminar. This partnership will facilitate advanced training and hands-on experience, equipping our workforce with the capabilities needed to excel in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.”
MIMOS Acting President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Saat Shukri Embong highlighted the seminar’s aim to share AI innovations, foster collaboration, and create networking opportunities, “This seminar provides a platform for networking, enabling participants to exchange ideas, forge partnerships, and explore new opportunities. We are expecting approximately 200 participants, demonstrating the strong interest and significance of AI across various sectors.”
The Malaysian government, through MOSTI, supports AI initiatives by ensuring infrastructure, policies, and incentives for AI development. MIMOS Berhad’s partnership with Phison is crucial to this commitment.
The MIMOS-PHISON ‘Empowering Communities With AI: Unlocking Potential Through Technology’ Seminar aligns with Malaysia’s vision of a digital economy, supporting national plans like the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint (MyDIGITAL), the National Artificial Intelligence Roadmap (AI-Rmap) 2021-2025, and the MADANI agenda, aiming for inclusive prosperity through advanced technologies. The goal is to drive AI adoption for Malaysia’s economic and social benefit. In addition, the contents from this seminar will also be made available on the MY-AI portal, the first national online platform dedicated to resources and issues related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) which was launched by MOSTI last month.
