During the Ninth Malaysia Plan (2006-2010), photonics technology was one of the base technologies used for the research, development and implementation of quantum cryptography project In MIMOS. Thereafter, the MIMOS Photonics laboratory was established to undertake dedicated projects on sensors that align to the on-going field-effect transistor (FET)-technology-based sensor research and development during the Tenth Malaysia Plan (2011-2015). Subsequently, in the Eleventh Malaysia Plan (2016-2020) MIMOS’ activities on photonics continue with the development of sensors for the healthcare, food safety, environment and aquaculture sectors.
MIMOS Photonic R&D Lab current activities include:
- Research and development in photonics sensing technologies to generate non-invasive, non-intrusive, non-destructive, cost-effective and easy-to-use solutions
- Design and development of photonics sensing technologies with advanced algorithm on optical signal for frontier solutions
- Knowledge generation on sophisticated photonics sensing methods towards providing solutions for industry, government and community
- Provision of photonics-related training and services to universities and industry.
